Tyler-Parkes is pleased to announce that planning permission has been secured for a new astro-turf Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) at Alderbrook School, Solihull.

The project will replace a long-disused Redgra pitch, transforming it into a modern, all-weather facility designed to expand sporting opportunities both for pupils and the wider community.

A boost for school and community sport

The new pitch, complete with fencing, floodlighting and a small spectator area, will provide additional capacity for the school’s curriculum and extra-curricular sports. A Community Use Agreement, prepared in consultation with Sport England, will ensure the facility is also available to local sports clubs and organisations. The year-round playing surface and floodlights will be particularly valuable in winter months, when grass pitches are often out of use.

Collaboration and design

The project has been developed in close collaboration with Alderbrook School and Adsum Sports and Play, who have designed the pitch and will be constructing the new facility. Tyler-Parkes coordinated the planning application, working alongside a team of technical consultants to address matters such as ecology, biodiversity, trees and drainage.

Meeting policy priorities

The scheme supports both local and national planning policy aims of improving access to high-quality sport and recreation facilities. It also responds directly to Solihull Council’s Playing Pitch & Outdoor Sport Strategy, which highlights the acute need for more 3G and artificial pitches in the Borough.

Delivery

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, with the new facility expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Glenda Parkes, Founding Director at Tyler-Parkes, commented:

“We are delighted to have helped Alderbrook School bring forward this long-awaited improvement. The new facility will not only enhance the school’s sporting provision but also deliver lasting benefits to the wider Solihull community.”
