Warwick's Canal Side Development Plan Document Out to Consultation

Warwick District Council has published for consultation the submission version of the Canalside Development Plan Document (DPD) until 21st December 2020.

The DPD will provide policies which will guide the Council in the determination of planning applications in the area. The current consultation follows on from the designation of a Canal Conservation Area on January 2019. This new conservation area covers the canals that cross Warwick District, namely the Grand Union Canal and the Stratford on Avon canals. The Conservation Area covers the whole of the canals’ lengths to afford additional protection to the area, as more changes would require a planning application and subsequent approval before being carried out. The Council states that whilst this does not preclude development and change, it does introduce tighter controls over such proposals. To ensure that the area with conservation area status remains relevant and logical, the Council confirm that the boundary in the most part was drawn closely to the edge of the canal and towpath and the immediate environs, only taking in a wider aspect of the setting of the canal where it closely related to the history and uses of the canal.

If you have any land within or adjoining the Canal Conservation Area and/or the area covered by the consultation DPD and want more information, please contact us.
