Town Planning Consultants (full and part-time) – all levels Come Join Us!

Due to our growing workload, we have vacancies for permanent town planners. Tyler Parkes is enjoying its 25th year of business and is one of the largest independent planning consultancies in the West Midlands.

You will be joining a busy and experienced town planning and architectural team. We deal with all aspects of development management and policy planning, working on a whole variety of commercial and residential schemes, including planning appraisals, applications and appeals, enforcement and development planning work. Our clients include housebuilders, private landowners, and the public sector.

We work predominantly in the West Midlands but also nationally, in both urban and rural areas, including Green Belt. Having in-house architectural staff means that you will be involved in many varied projects from the start through to permission and you will be given schemes for which you will be responsible from the outset. We have a great team spirit and a supportive work environment.

Depending on your work experience, your role may include: -

· Leading on a range of projects.

· Liaising and negotiating with various stakeholders including developers, other specialist consultants and planning officers.

· Preparing documents for input into projects, such as planning support statements and appeal submissions.

· Presenting to planning committees, and appearing at hearings, inquiries, and examinations.

· Development Plan Policy Documents representations; and

· Identifying new business opportunities to expand the company’s client base.

To be successful, you must be a team player, be able to manage competing demands on your time and be self-motivated. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills. Your experience should be varied in terms of types and sizes of projects. Direct experience of policy planning would be advantageous as you will be required to work on development plan representations, when needed. You should be technically competent and computer literate.

To be successful in this position you must be MRTPI. Experience in both the public and the private sectors would be an advantage, although not essential.

We welcome applications from people who may be interested in flexible/ part-time working.

We look forward to hearing from you if you consider you are the right person to join our team.

In light of current COVID-19 restrictions video interviews will be conducted as soon as possible, followed by a COVID-19-secure socially distanced second interview, with a start date shortly afterwards. Applicants will need to confirm that they are legally able to work in the UK.

Until current restrictions are lifted, the successful candidate will need to work from home, apart from site visits when required and safe to do so, which will be risk- assessed.

You will require a full driver's licence and access to a car for site visits.

We are an equal opportunities employer.

If you are interested in joining us and would like more information about the role and company, please contact Glenda Parkes on 0121 744 5511, email

We look forward to welcoming you to the Tyler-Parkes team.
