South Staffordshire Council has started work on a new Local Plan under the revised plan-making system introduced through the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023.

This is an important opportunity for landowners, developers, businesses and local communities to help shape the future direction of development across the district.

The Council is now undertaking its Scoping Consultation, which is the first stage of public engagement in preparing the new South Staffordshire Local Plan. The consultation seeks views on the key issues, challenges and priorities that the plan should address.

At the same time, the Council has launched a Call for Sites, inviting landowners, developers and other interested parties to submit land for consideration for a range of future uses, including housing, traveller sites, employment land, retail and commercial uses.

For landowners, this is more than a routine consultation exercise. It may be the first formal opportunity to have land considered through the new plan-making process. While submitting a site does not guarantee allocation, it ensures that the land is assessed as part of the Council’s evidence base and can help establish whether it has future development potential.

Early technical review is important. Matters such as Green Belt status, grey belt potential, access, landscape impact, ecology, infrastructure, flood risk, heritage and deliverability can all influence whether a site is likely to be considered suitable for future allocation.

The consultation runs from 10 June 2026 until midday on 22 July 2026.

Consultation documents and the site submission platform are available through the Council’s Engage South Staffordshire portal.

Anyone with land in South Staffordshire, or an interest in future development opportunities in the district, should consider responding before the deadline.

Tyler Parkes can assist with reviewing site potential, preparing Call for Sites submissions, and advising on the planning strategy needed to promote land through the Local Plan process.
