New NHS development at St George’s Hospital

Tyler Parkes has submitted a planning application on behalf of Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for a Crisis Assessment Centre at St George’s Hospital, Stafford.

We have worked closely with the Trust and a multi-disciplinary Design Team, including Gilling Dod Architects, to develop the proposals, which would incorporate and enhance the existing Section 136 facility at the hospital as it cannot be expanded in its current location, can only accommodate either adults or children and does not provide assessment facilities.

This scheme seeks to move and enhance this facility to meet the needs of both adults and children if required, without needing to close the suite to adults when a child or young person is admitted. As proposed, the development would provide a safe environment within a bespoke facility where mental health assessments can be facilitated for both adults and children and any necessary arrangements made for on-going care. The proposed development will consist of dedicated assessment rooms, together with associated therapy, living, support and staff welfare facilities, and external garden areas.

The building would occupy the site of Stonefields House, which has been cleared to accommodate the proposed development with the Prior Approval of the Council following an application made on behalf of the Trust by Tyler Parkes.

Planning permission will complement the suite of permissions already secured by Tyler Parkes across the site. A decision on the application is due by 28th August 2023.
