Bromsgrove consults on Draft Development Strategy
Bromsgrove District Council adopted its current District Plan in 2017 (Bromsgrove District Plan 2011-30). The Council has just commenced a consultation on a new Local Plan - the new Bromsgrove District Plan Review - which will extend to approximately 2043 and will plan for the District’s new development requirements for that period.
Consultation on a Draft Development Strategy began on the 30th June 2025 and will run until 22nd September 2025.
Between now and 2043, the Council states it needs to allocate enough land for 12,155 homes to meet their Local Housing Need (LHN) – the government changed the method for calculating LHN last December 2024, and the number of dwellings the District needs to accommodate almost doubled. The Council also need to find potentially 28 hectares of employment land for manufacturing and warehousing, as well as identifying opportunities for office space. Alongside that, the Council needs to ensure that provision is made for sufficient services, facilities and other supporting infrastructure.
The current consultation includes proposed sites but there are no policies covering such issues as the Town Centre planning strategy, specific housing policies such as affordable housing, or details of how the Council will look to tackle climate change – these will all follow in the next version of the Plan. However, the Council state that the feedback from this consultation will help inform these initiatives as the Plan progresses. The Council also states that ‘Not all of our evidence base is in place yet.’
The Council has selected sites for new housing, employment and infrastructure on which it requires feedback (in addition to requesting feedback on the overall distribution of housing).
