On 30th May 2019, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Cabinet authorised the making of an Article 4 Direction to remove residential permitted development rights from properties within part of the Olton Conservation Area, including those on and adjacent to St. Bernard’s Road.

The Article 4 Direction has immediate effect. The aim of the Direction is to encourage alterations to properties that preserve or enhance the area’s historic character. Planning permission will now be required for most householder development, giving the Council control over alterations and additions to the properties in the area.
