Success for student accommodation in Kenilworth

Tyler Parkes is delighted to have obtained planning permission from Warwick District Council’s Planning Committee for the conversion and extension of a former restaurant building in Kenilworth to student accommodation.

The application site is located on Warwick Road within the residential area of Kenilworth and immediately adjacent to the Claverdon Road Conservation Area. The scheme will provide 6 cluster apartments with 23 student bedrooms overall. It is proposed to raise the roofline of the building to match the character of the adjacent Conservation Area. The scheme also proposes an extension along the Warwick Road frontage and changes to the existing elevation with an archway drive to access the rear parking court.

The scheme was assessed against the policies of the recently adopted Warwick Local Plan and complied with all relevant policies in particular with regard to student accommodation. None of the statutory consultees objected to the scheme, including Conservation, Highways or Ecology and the application was recommended for approval by the planning officer.

However, due to objections from the Town Council and neighbouring residents in respect of parking provision, the scheme had to be decided at the Council’s Planning Committee. Whilst 2 objectors to the scheme spoke against the proposal, Laura Pohl, Tyler Parkes’ Planning Consultant, addressed the objectors’ comments and presented the client’s case which was subsequently approved
