Permission granted for new retail unit and apartments in Acocks Green
Tyler Parkes is pleased to have received planning permission from Birmingham City Council for the conversion, including extensions, of an existing tyre fitting shop to provide a retail unit on the ground floor and 5 apartments on the first and second floors. The Council had originally approached our client threatening enforcement action about changes that had taken place to the building, including the creation of the apartments.
The site is located at the junction of Yardley Road and Francis Road, about 600m to the north of Acocks Green railway station and 1.2 km north of Acocks Green centreThe area is predominantly residential in nature with some commercial and residential properties adjoining the site.
The proposed development will secure the provision of four self-contained residential apartments, representing a considerable improvement in terms of floorspace and standard of accommodation to the existing situation. It would also see the replacement of what has been regarded as a non-conforming use. The design of the development has taken into account its location on the corner of Acocks Green Road and Frances Road, with the scale of the extended building reflecting that of the two roads.
The planning application was recommended for approval by officers, however, due to the large amount of objections, the application was determined by the Council’s planning committee, where it was agreed that the proposal complied with adopted planning policies and was subsequently approved
