South Worcestershire Council’s adopt separate CIL Charging Schedules

TP Editorial Team

The South Worcestershire Councils of Malvern Hills, Worcester City and Wychavon District Council have adopted separate Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedules. Both Malvern Hills and Wychavon Councils will implement CIL charging from Monday 5th June 2017 and Worcester City will implement CIL charging from Monday 4th September 2017. Planning applications approved after those dates will be liable to CIL if located within the chargeable areas.

CIL is intended to be used to help fund infrastructure to support the development of an area and the charges will vary between the Authorities and specific areas. Residential development within the main urban areas for example, will not require a payment in all three authority areas, however, outside the main urban areas, Malvern Hills and Wychavon charge £40 per square metre on new residential development, while this is also nil within Worcester.

The schedule also proposes a CIL charge of £100 for student accommodation and £60 for both food retail and retail warehouses in all three local authority areas.
