Approval of Shirley Aquatics’ re-location to Becketts Farm, Wythall
Shirley Aquatics are set to move from their current premises on Stratford Road, Shirley, following the recent approval by Bromsgrove District Council for their relocation and new use of the site.
As reported in our previous article of 4th December, Solihull MBC granted planning permission for the redevelopment of their Shirley site by an 80-bed care home for Barchester Healthcare, with Tyler-Parkes acting as agents. Subsequently, we also submitted an application to Bromsgrove DC who granted planning permission for the change of use and extension of an agricultural building at the well-known Becketts Farm.
The approved application at Becketts Farm proposes the change of use of the existing building for the display and sale of ornamental fish and the erection of a pergola, together with alterations and improvements to elevations and landscaping.
The planning officer recommended refusal of the proposal due to the impact on the location within the Green Belt. Glenda Parkes, Director at Tyler-Parkes successfully argued at the Bromsgrove Planning Committee against the officers’ recommendation, demonstrating that there are very special circumstances in this case to justify allowing this particular development within the Green Belt.
Tyler-Parkes have been involved from the outset with both applications in helping to facilitate the future growth of Shirley Aquatics by the two-stage process of achieving planning permission for an alternative development on their present site and their relocation to the popular leisure and retail attraction at Becketts Farm. This involvement is expected to continue within a multi-disciplinary team set up to bring the project forward to completion in summer next year
