Commission Launched to Boost Land Supply for Development

Last week the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) launched a Land Commission which will help to consider and improve the availability of sites for development in the West Midlands and has issued a call for evidence. The period for this closes on 30th September.

Land that is covered by the Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) of the Black Country, Greater Birmingham and Solihull, and Coventry and Warwickshire will be looked at by the WMCA. The focus will be on identifying the challenges that arise in finding land for new housing and employment in order to meet the targets of the WMCA’s strategic economic plan, recognising what is currently blocking the delivery of land and understanding how to secure improvements in its supply.

WMCA Lead for Housing and Land, Sean Coughlan, said that it is important to make the best use of available land as the resource is finite. He stated that the Land Commission will provide an opportunity to consider the many aspects which affect the supply and use of land across the West Midlands
