Plans Submitted for New Care Home in Shirley

The Tyler Parkes team has submitted plans for a new care home facility comprising two separate buildings and providing overall 87 bedrooms in Monkspath on behalf of our client, Barchester Healthcare.

The site is located on the A34 Stratford Road, connecting the M42 motorway to the south-west with Birmingham in the north-west. Currently the site is occupied by Shirley Aquatics who are proposing to relocate the business to a larger site.

The detailed scheme proposes the demolition of the existing retail premises and two houses on the site frontage and the erection of a care home facility comprised in two separate buildings, accessed from the Stratford Road. The smaller two-storey building on the site frontage would comprise 12 beds and would be located adjacent to the existing dwellings fronting Stratford Road and a larger northern block would comprise 75 beds accommodated within a two and three storey unit. The linear building would be centrally located, following the orientation of the site. The site will be landscaped and external amenity areas provided for the residents’ amenity.

The details of the project were assisted through a public consultation carried out in August 2016. Pre-application discussions were also held with the Council. Planning Permission is expected to be granted late 2016.
