Another NHS Planning Permission!
We have secured planning permission for the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for 40% more floorspace for the Horninglow Clinic, Burton-upon-Trent. The clinic is an important Adult Mental Health Hub providing out-patient services for the people of East Staffordshire.
The extension to the clinic will improve the existing consultation rooms, as well as providing additional consultation space. It will also create office floorspace to modern standards and will significantly improve the building’s shared spaces, such as the reception and waiting areas.
The site is in a very built-up part of the town. The County Council has parking standards for new development, but these could not be met in-full on the site due to the restricted space available. There are green areas with trees on the site which provide an important green setting in an otherwise urban environment, as well as adding to wildlife habitat. To overcome the need to provide additional car parking, we successfully argued the site is in a sustainable location, easily accessible by public transport, as well as being within walking and cycling distance of the community it serves. With this in mind, the proposals provide cycle and motorcycle parking, reminding the Council that the surrounding streets have excess parking spaces during clinic hours. In addition, in favour of the proposal, the scheme involved an improvement to the current access ensuring pedestrians and cars enter the site via different routes to improve safety.
