Powergen site progressing very well

TP Editorial Team

Those readers who are familiar with Stratford Road, Shirley will no doubt have noticed the significant progress being made on the redevelopment of the former Powergen site at the junction with Haslucks Green Road, very close in fact to the Tyler Parkes’ offices.

As announced in previous newsletters Tyler Parkes secured the planning permission for the redevelopment in June 2016. The scheme is a high-quality development at this important gateway to Solihull borough.

It includes an ExtraCare Retirement Village by the ExtraCare Charitable Trust, comprising 261 units and various facilities for the residents including a café, cinema, gym, library, hairdressers etc. Construction of this substantial block has reached a height of around four storeys, but since the highest part of the development will be 13-storeys, there is a long way to go! In the meantime the three towering construction cranes are becoming a local landmark in their own right.

In addition, many of the 113 dwellings on the Lioncourt Homes development to the rear, served from a new road access and junction off Haslucks Green Road, have already been built and many are now occupied.

Finally ASDA’s new petrol station, served from the same new access road, was built and opened some time ago, and now provides a much needed convenient source of fuel in this part of Shirley.
