The Former Powergen site has an approximate size of 3.9 ha and is located in a prominent location within Shirley, on the corner of Stratford Road and Haslucks Green Road. The previously developed site will soon be developed with a mix of houses and apartments including a retirement ExtraCare village, a petrol-filling station and extensive highway works.
Tyler Parkes led early pre-application discussions with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and these were followed by a detailed planning application. We lead the planning application, prepared the supporting planning documents and managed the application through the process which included negotiations with statutory consultees and the Authority. The main issues we overcame were the loss of trees, landscaping, scale/ massing and impact of the development on the street scene and the impact on neighbours.
The application was subsequently approved at the Council’s planning committee subject to a legal agreement requiring the contribution towards improved green spaces and parks in Shirley.
